《老友记》在最初制作时，制片公司曾考虑过多个剧集名字，包括：
《西村往事》（Once upon a time in the West Village）
《失眠咖啡屋》（Insomnia Cafe）
《穿过走廊》（Across the Hall）
最终确定的名字为 《像我们这样的朋友》（Friends like Us），但最后使用时被缩减成了 《friends》。
此外，《老友记》也被称作 《六人行》。
